FRANNY AND ZOOEY
A Summary: The story is split into two parts. The first is from the perspective of Franny and tells of her weekend date with her boyfriend. Franny questions the idea of the worth of academic endeavors. She goes out to lunch with her boyfriend, and they discuss the book Franny has been reading, but it is clear her boyfriend does not understand or care for the book and is more concerned with their plans for the weekend. Franny faints and he goes to call a taxi, leaving Franny to pray. The second part of the book is from the perspective of Zooey. It shares the story of his interactions with his mother and subsequent chats with his sister Franny. Zooey shares with her some words of wisdom that their older brother Seymour once gave him. He said that people should live with optimism and love, because if even no one else notices, Jesus does.
Review: I absolutely love J.D. Salinger's work and this was no exception. I am a huge fan of Catcher in the Rye, and this gave me the same feel in terms of questioning the world and the place each person has within it. I love the idea of questioning why society functions the way it does, and the role of Christianity and Jesus. I have begun to work on my faith this semester, so it was really interesting to see that in work.
