DUNE

 DUNE

A Summary: Dune is set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which various noble houses control planetary fiefs. It tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose family accepts the stewardship of the planet Arrakis. I don't want to give away too much here because the book is very complicated and you really should just read it in order to understand it.

Review: I wanted to read this book for two reasons. The first being my dad saying he loved this book when he read it in middle/high school. The second being the upcoming movie based upon this book with Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya. I loved the plotline of the book, but it also came with its struggles. The book has multiple appendixes, which you should read before starting the book so you get a better context of the history between the rival families. In addition, there is an appendix for the vocabulary/language of the book, which I recommend putting a sticky note in that section so you can reference it because you'll need it a lot (especially at the beginning). Overall I loved the plot, the drama, the story, but it took a little while to get into that and was confusing at the beginning. I also love the commentary on politics because it just really goes hand in hand with today's society and some of the quotes about it just make sense. (I'll drop one below)

“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.”

“The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience.”

SOME POLITICAL QUOTES (JUST TO SHOW)

“Absolute power does not corrupt absolutely, absolute power attracts the corruptible.”

“Governments, if they endure, always tend increasingly toward aristocratic forms. No government in history has been known to evade this pattern. And as the aristocracy develops, government tends more and more to act exclusively in the interests of the ruling class - whether that class be hereditary royalty, oligarchs of financial empires, or entrenched bureaucracy."
